Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG)
Our CEIAG Vision
Currently in the UK, less than 6% of people with SEND make it into paid employment. Our aim at Sir Bobby Robson School is to change this and ensure our learners have every opportunity available to them.
Our vision is to increase the opportunities our students have of finding post 16 learning college courses, apprenticeships and quality paid employment post-education opportunities. We do this by providing consistent, high quality careers education for all of our students – delivered in a meaningful and appropriate way for their needs and circumstances.
Last year 100% of our leavers obtained, and have sustained, places in further education, training or have been accepted on an apprenticeship.
The schools careers leader is Jonathan Sly (jsly@sbrschool.co.uk).
Our careers team is comprised of Sam Brinsley (sbrinsley@sbrschool.co.uk); Sam Reynolds (sreynolds@sbrschool.co.uk); and Ian Leckie (ileckie@sbrschool.co.uk). They can all be contacted via the school via email or by phone on 01473 556210.
We work closely with New Anglia Careers Hub, promoting the Gatsby benchmarks and preparing young people for the fast-changing world of work. They coordinate a regional network that connects schools and colleges with employers and career programmes to create high-impact career opportunities for young people. To this end, we are supported by Karen Cross at www.newanglia.co.uk
What does our CEIAG programme look like?
Sir Bobby Robson School recognises that it has a statutory duty to provide impartial and objective Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) for ALL pupils.
A robust CEIAG programme makes a significant contribution in preparing young people for their future. CEIAG helps young people make decisions about their future pathways and build the skills required for the world of work.
This in turn supports our young people with positive and fulfilling personal and career aspirations, raises self-esteem and improves overall emotional wellbeing.
CEIAG at Sir Bobby Robson School is :
Face to face – not just online or over the phone
Proactive, available and accessible – there when and where young people need it
Aspirational – doesn’t limit young people’s options
Qualified – informative and impartial – avoids stereotype and judgements
Holistic – has the capacity to focus on barriers when needed
Outcome, not output focused – working towards sustainable employment, not just getting into any job.
Further Information on Post-16 Transition
We appreciate that transition can be a big cause of anxiety and worry for pupils and families alike. We are working to evolve our offer as we grow as a school, but we will work closely with our families and careers to create a package that meets the needs of each of our pupils.
