Practical/vocational subjects have been successfully introduced at Sir Bobby Robson school over the last three years, and we are now in the final stages of creating a multi-use workshop space. We now deliver a selection of BTEC Level 1 qualifications currently including: Construction, Engineering, and Land Based Studies.
In an ever more digital world, the need for practically skilled workers is outstripping the supply, especially in the UK where we have a shortage of engineers and construction professionals, despite excellent wages or the opportunity to be successfully self-employed.
Leaning to use tools and equipment safely, effectively and professionally at a young age not only provides scope for future learning and employment; it also provides massive personal growth especially in the areas of self-esteem and confidence.
We have a strong fucus the importance of Health and Safety and expect pupils to behave in a mature and sensible manner at all times in the workshop, further preparing them for future careers where HASAWA (the Health and Safety at Work Act) will be an integral part of everything they do.
